Events BJJ 02-08-2009
Four competitors entered from our club, Jake Farnsworth took first place in his kids division with another dominating display. Also in the kids division Jarred Ferreira, after only two months training, went the distance with the 2nd place getter. Awesome work Jarred. Andre Powell, although sight impaired stepped up for his first match. Narrowly missing out by 1 point in the last second of the match, also against the eventual 2nd place getter. Is there anything this guy can't achieve? Robert Sabaruddin continued his winning streak as a blue belt with the fastest submission of the day in his first match, flying armbar in 8 seconds. Rob then went on to win his division via armbar from guard. Over all another very successful comp by Events BJJ

Results
The recent Machado BJJ nationals was the best & biggest ever with 280 competitors
gathering from Australia & overseas. John Will, as usual did a fantastic job with the
organization & Rigan Machado held a wonderful colored belt seminar the following
day with about 17 black belts in the same room. This really is rare anywhere in the
world, let alone Australia. Just goes to show what a strong organization John has
built over the years.
Jake Farnsworth won 4 matches, 2 by submission, 1 by referee stoppage & his final
match by points to take out the under 12's 20-28kg division. I am so proud of him.
Robert Sabaruddin took silver after 6 hard fought matches. Anyone that has ever
competed knows how hard it is to do this amount of matches in 1 day. What an athlete.
Ara Arountiounian also took silver in the teens over 55kg division. Well done Ara your future
is so bright. Andrew Fu was out pointed in his second match in the biggest division of the
comp, 48 people. Great effort Andrew.
All said & done it was a great weekend & very successful for our small team. I was very
impressed with all our competitors, they played their game & took it to their opponents.Win,
lose or draw they held themselves high & showed great sportsmanship. Well done guy's,
I am very proud of you all.

The Sydney BJJ Xtreme Series

Sunday 15 June 2008

10.00 am Ann Clarke Sports Centre, Church Street Lidcombe

Congrats to everyone who competed in the comp on Sunday. It was a
great day with many positives for our members. Kris & Ara walked away
with bronze & silver medals, Scott was on his way to the finals when he
was unfortunately injured & all other competitors were knocked out by the
winners of their divisions. Great job guys, these comps really do drive us
not only as individuals, but as a club to achieve greatness.

I.S.K.A Championships 19 May 2008

Jake Farnsworth & Marcus Scalone backed up to compete on Sunday at the ISKA comp.
Clearly worn from the previous day the boy's fought hard & managed 3rd & 4th places
respectively, (amidst contraversy). Robert Sabaruddin took out 1st place in the 66 to 73kg
class with 2 submissions. Also big mention to Melanie Scalone competing against the men on
both day's & taking 2nd place at ISKA.

NSW Machado BJJ Championships 18 May 2008

The kids tournament commenced first with Jake Farnsworth & new recruit Marcus Scalone
showing complete domination over their opponents to take out 1st place in their divisions.
Luca Buratto finished his first bout with a textbook rear naked choke & went on to take
out 2nd place in the 67 to 72kg class.
Warren Parsons submitted his first opponent with a front choke in what must have been
the fastest finish of the day & went on to take 3rd place in the very competitive 73 to 79kg
class.
Ven Gialouris also fought in one of the most competive classes, 79 to 85kg. After 2 tough
matches Ven fought off for third place. Withstanding every submission attempt. Ven
unfortunately went down on points.
Paul Smibert took 2nd place in the 91 to 97kg class, narrowly missing out on the win by
points decision.
The action in the super heavy weight class, (97kg & above) was fierce to say the least.
Luke Price took on the heaviest guy in the competition, battling hard from his guard
& at rounds end just going down by 2 points.
Scott Martell also had an exciting bout, turning the match around & trying to finish with an
armbar from side control in the dying seconds, narrowly missing out on points.
